After 14 remarkable years, an incredible team member, Barry Mahony, hung up his keyboard and stepped into a well-deserved retirement. His journey with Blue Crystal Solutions began in June 2010 when he joined as a Trainee/Grad DBA. Barry reflected on his early days, “At the time, I had no idea what was in store nor how things would work out.”
His initial weeks were filled with challenges as he was quickly immersed in various demanding projects. He remembered how quickly he had to adapt and learn on the job. Despite these hurdles, he thrived, proving his resilience and dedication.
Barry attributes much of his successful career to the opportunities and support he received at BCS. He mentioned Vito, who gave him the opportunity all those years ago; Emil, whose daily check-ins provided unwavering support during challenging times; and all the colleagues who supported him and with whom he had the chance to learn.
When reflecting on his biggest achievement, he humbly mentioned his 14 years in the industry, something that, at the beginning, he never thought would happen. His journey from a Trainee to a Technical Consultant for Oracle is a testament to his perseverance and commitment. No wonder he’s long been our “go-to” for any cross-technology. It would also be remiss of us to say that his contributions to our 24×7 monitoring tool, BlueDiamond, have made him a pioneer of innovation and a navigator of all the complexities that come with managing old and new technologies.
As Barry moves into retirement, he looks forward to spending more time with his family and working on his woodworking projects.
When asked what was one piece of advice he’d give to his colleagues about work and life, he thought deeply for a moment and said: “With anything you endeavour to do, if it’s for the right reasons, it will work out”.
He is already missed here, but his journey at BCS will always be an inspiration we will cherish.
