At Blue Crystal, we’re dedicated to empowering organisations through technology, but today, we want to spotlight a cause close to our hearts: mental health. We’re proud to stand behind Sophie Thredgold’s mission to raise funds for the Black Dog Institute through the Heysen 160. This initiative brings together an athletic challenge and a deep commitment to improving mental health outcomes across Australia.
Raising Awareness for Mental Health
Mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians every year, manifesting in conditions like depression and anxiety. Its impact extends beyond individuals to families, friends, and entire communities. That’s why initiatives like Sophie’s sponsorship are so important. Sophie’s efforts are raising essential funds for The Black Dog Institute, a leader in mental health research and support services. Their work plays a crucial role in helping Australians navigate mental health challenges and contributes to reducing suicide rates.
The Heysen 160
The Heysen 160 is a collaborative event between Seymour and PAC, during which 14 Year 11 students from each school will run a collective 160km through the stunning Adelaide Hills. Sophie and her team are working to raise $12,000 to support the life-changing mental health research and services provided by the Black Dog Institute. Each student will run between 20 and 30 km, making this not just a physical journey but a lasting impact on mental health awareness.
The Black Dog Institute’s Impact
The Black Dog Institute is at the forefront of tackling mental illness. The funds raised through events like the Heysen 160 directly contribute to research, treatment, and education that make a real difference in Australians’ lives. The Institute’s focus on developing new treatments, supporting those in crisis, and educating the public on mental health is critical to creating a more mentally healthy society.
