AEMO (Australian Energy Market Operator) (formally NEMMCO)

Australia’s National Electricity Market (NEM) stretches along the eastern seaboard from Queensland to South Australia. It comprises of more than 100 registered participants which trade up to 180,000 gigawatt hours of electricity each year worth billions of dollars. More than eight million homes and more than one million businesses have freedom of choice over which retailer supplies their electricity. It is managed by the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) which uses purpose-built information systems to orchestrate the interactions of participants, data and all financial transactions in the market.

The demands of an increasingly deregulated energy and utilities market environment are compelling participants to become more innovative and competitive. To enable participants to gain deeper understanding of trading and operational strategies, access to relevant information from AEMO and industry groups is crucial. Blue Crystal Solutions assists Participants to develop applications and increase the reliability and robustness of the underlying Oracle systems that deliver this mission critical information.

Blue Crystal Solutions employees are trained database administrators who adhere to standards and change management procedures with strong regimes that all team members operate under. They have extensive Energy industry experience. This has involved the planning, upgrading implementing and supporting the market trading applications and databases. Additional support includes a 24 x 7 capability to respond to problems and to satisfy mission critical levels of system availability. This combined with their in depth Database Management skill set ensures that all team members are equipped to meet and exceed the expectations of their role.

Blue Crystal Solutions participate in the monthly AEMO User group meetings. Blue Crystal Solutions provide Electricity Market Participants with the following types of daily support:

  • Day to day checking and daily operational tasks of the AEMO interfaces between Electricity Market Participants and AEMO;
  • Provide 24x7 AEMO Database Application support;
  • Daily checking of the AEMO Software (including but not limited to) AEMO to Electricity Market Participants (Infoserver) downloads, AEMO Replication Server, Next Day/FRC/MSATS Parser downloads;
  • Create a Weekly Report summarizing the week’s activities, problems and outcomes along with AEMO Daily Bulletins, AEMO Market notices and changes notice;
  • Provide problem resolution to AEMO Interface problems;
  • Quarterly Nemnet password changes, and
  • Run and monitor monthly archival routines.

Adhoc database consultancy services and support include:

  • Onsite Application Database Administration;
  • Application services to the Electricity Market Participant teams, and to assist in application administration and support;
  • Service Requests as defined by Electricity Market participants;
  • The full application ownership and administration of the AEMO Application Software including the MMS, Replication Server, Replication Client and Parser upgrades;
  • Onsite Meetings as required;
  • Reporting Services;
  • Business Analysis and Functional Specification writing;
  • Project management, and
  • Provide integrated messaging functionality such as email and mobile phone SMS messaging initiated by data triggers and/or user requests.
